Can foreigners employed in China not participate in social insurance?
According to Article 9 of the Interim Measures for the Participation in Social Insurance by Foreigners Employed in China, if a person with the nationality of a country with which China has signed a bilateral or multilateral agreement on social insurance is employed in China, his or her participation in social insurance shall be handled in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.
That is to say, for countries with which China has signed bilateral or multilateral agreements on social insurance, the payment of social insurance premiums for citizens of those countries who are employed in China shall be handled in accordance with the relevant agreements.
At present, 10 countries have signed bilateral mutual exemption agreements on social insurance with China.
