Job responsibilities
- Teaching and Instruction: Resident English teachers are responsible for providing high quality instruction in English to students. They are expected to use appropriate teaching methods and resources, and to plan and deliver effective lessons that meet the needs and goals of their students. They also provide out-of-class guidance and support to students in completing homework, preparing for exams and developing English language skills. - Curriculum Development: Resident English teachers work closely with the principal or school leader to develop or adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of students. They should have a clear understanding of the goals of the curriculum and how best to impart knowledge and skills to students. - Student Management: Resident English teachers are responsible for managing student behavior and creating a positive learning environment. They are expected to enforce school rules and discipline students when necessary, as well as promote positive relationships with students and encourage their personal development. - Parent Communication: Resident English teachers play a key role in communicating with parents by updating them on their child's progress, sharing any concerns or questions, and seeking their input and support in their child's education. - PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT: Resident English teachers prepare annual plans and assessments for students, outlining learning objectives, assessment methods and expected outcomes. They also participate in the evaluation and improvement of the school's instructional process. - Professional Development: Residential English teachers are expected to keep their knowledge and skills up to date through professional development activities or courses related to education or the teaching of English. They should also be willing to share their experiences and learn from other peers.
Job requirements
- Language skills: Excellent English language skills, including fluency in speaking, writing and comprehension. They should be able to communicate effectively with students and provide them with guidance and support. - Educational background: A relevant educational background such as a degree in education, linguistics or English language teaching. They should have knowledge of language teaching methods and techniques and the ability to plan and implement effective lessons. - Teaching experience: Experience of teaching English or a related subject is not always necessary. Such experience may be gained through part-time teaching, volunteer work, or previous work in education or a related field. - Certification: Hold a relevant teaching certification such as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). - Flexibility and adaptability: Possess a flexible and adaptable attitude as they will be working and living in different cultural environments with students of different ages and backgrounds. They should be able to adapt their teaching style to suit different learning needs, while also understanding and respecting local customs. - Intercultural Communication Skills: Strong intercultural communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with students and their families. They should be sensitive to cultural differences and demonstrate patience and understanding in dealing with different communication styles and challenges. - Hold a valid passport and be able to obtain visas or work permits required by the country in which they are employed.
