COVER LETTER FOR JACK CARNEY, ENGLISH TEACHER
ES/FL Teacher, VET, Executive/LIfe Coach, Health Care Researcher, Relationship Consultant, Editor
For the past 21 years I have been teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language face-to-face and on the Internet to native language Chinese, Japanese and Spanish clients in a wide variety of academic, business, and private settings for many different purposes and for ages 6 to 65.
I have a Bachelor of Social Science degree, a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, and am certified: to instruct the Parent Effectiveness Training; to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Prepare-Enrich Inventories, and the Workplace Big Five Profile. Before becoming a teacher, trainer and counselor, I started up and ran my own companies, writing business plans and obtaining venture capital. I invented, patented and marketed new products in Australia and America. I am a published writer, both prose and poetry. I have had a long-time interest in Eastern history and cultures, studying Daoism, Confucianism, Zen Buddhism and Japanese and Chinese poetry. I have worked as an editor for businesses and university students including helping postgraduates research and write their theses. I lived and worked continuously in China for 13 years -- the first 3 years in Ningbo, Zhejiang, the remainder in Beijing. July 2015, I moved to Santiago, Chile. November 2016, I moved to Auckland, New Zealand.
In 2003, I was invited to China to develop and teach innovative courses at universities incorporating Personality Type, Learning Styles, and the use of Internet resources. I have created and taught university courses on cultural differences, management, marketing and organizational behavior. I have also done research and delivered seminars on East/West cognitive differences for Chinese city governments and universities such as Tsinghua. I was the Chief Educator for Career Academic Facilitation Education Service (CAFES), Ltd. in Beijing. I was the Chief Consulting Officer for the Beijing Sleep Research Institute (BSRI) – in U.S., Asian Pacific Sleep Society, Inc. (APSS). I consulted for such Chinese organizations as Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Giant International Education Institution, Sungift International Education, Foreign Enterprise Human Resources Service Co. (FESCO), and Morgan English Training.
My work has consistently received the highest evaluations and recommendations from participants, colleagues and management. I have extensive experience in working with people as a counsellor, adult community educator, and public speaker. I have appeared on Australian television, radio and newspapers, and was a relationship consultant for Optus TV’s Women With Vision program.
My specialty is the teaching of English, business and humanities courses that include personal and career development perspectives. My approach is based on in depth, international scientific research and consideration for individual and cultural learning differences. My teacher strength is to create a learning environment in which participants feel both challenged and supported.

“Jack became very popular among students because of his dynamic teaching methods and high sense of responsibility. Once there was a saying in our school that “You are very lucky to be able to take Jack’s class.” During his class, he shared his ideas with the students about many aspects of Chinese life and their cultural awareness has been awakened step by step among students.”

“Jack is a conscientious and well-qualified native English trainer. He built up a website for English learning on which his Chinese students could communicate with him freely. Every Chinese student likes his English lessons, for his teaching is usually active, bidirectional and humorous and he not only taught us knowledge of English language but also knowledge of cultural background of English. Like most of his Chinese students, I regard him as my best friend coming from a foreign country. I am thoroughly convinced that Jack is a highly qualified English trainer. I hereby give my recommendation without reservations.”

The first impression Jack gave me was as a kind friend that I had known for a long time. Except language, we don’t have big culture difference like we always have with other foreigners. I suppose it is because Jack liked Chinese Culture, got to know it by investigating it over 20 years ago. He is very kind, gentle, and always consider things on the side of others. He is a Confucian man of honor. With his deep understanding of western and eastern culture and thought, Jack can mobilize students’ learning interest and brainpower in limited teaching time to make the class more meaningful with stimulating information and knowledge.” Joseph Wang, Deputy Director, China Banking Regulatory Commission, Ningbo

“Jack’s lectures best reflect that he is an erudite professor with extensive academic achievements. Besides inspiring insights, his lectures are also flavored with humor, which makes him one of the most popular teachers among students. In addition to teaching, Mr. Jack Carney is also outstanding in business consultation. He successfully helped a famous Italian photographer to hold her photo exhibitions in a newly-opened branch of a Sweden furniture in Ningbo. That was an exotic, but perfect meeting of art and commercial promotion. That exhibition struck us a deep impression, thanks to Mr. Jack Carney’s creative work. He is so kind and warm hearted that he has made a great many friends in China.”

“Jack is a real professional at school, he knows how to organize a class full of fun through all the lesson. He has full knowledge of teaching language and knows many ways to teach different students at different levels. After Jack’s guidance, many students enjoyed learning English with great interest. Jack is not only an active teacher at school, he is also very good at communicating with others. He organized meetings to help younger people coming out of school find their ways in life and make the right decisions on their career. With his amazing help and encouragement many young persons found their right job and some of them (I am one of them) now run their own businesses.”
