As a homestay host, my family and I welcome 2–3 ESL students into our home, providing a safe, supportive, and culturally enriching environment that blends both Western and Chinese traditions. We help students adapt to their new surroundings while organizing various cultural activities to create an immersive learning experience in both English and Chinese cultures. Additionally, we encourage students to develop positive study routines to support their academic success.

As a PYP Visual Arts teacher, I enhance the interdisciplinary and community-oriented goals of the program while embracing cultural diversity. Students explore various artistic techniques and global art traditions, fostering creativity and cross-cultural understanding. I collaborate with homeroom teachers to integrate art into transdisciplinary themes in UOI projects, and also organize after-school art clubs. For 5th graders, I guide portfolio documentation and visual components for the PYP Exhibition. I curate the school art exhibition, featuring 500 student artworks and parent workshops. I also co-lead interdisciplinary projects, such as the math-focused “Pi Day,” the “Poetry Conference,” and “Chinese Culture Events,” enriching learning through art.

As a Mandarin teacher, I taught students from Grade 4 to 8, helping them to develop their skills in speaking, reading, writing and understanding Chinese cultures. I incorporated Chinese traditional painting, calligraphy, as well as Chinese cooking, into the culture study program to provide a more immersive learning experience. Additionally, I introduced Chinese shadow theater to 5th grade students, guiding them in creating their own stories and producing their own performances.
