This Job is based in AustraliaThe OpportunityThe School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) has an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role you will contribute to the research and development of spaceflight-certified solar panels, applying expertise in spacecraft power system development while considering various environmental and production factors. Additionally, you will develop protective surface layers for solar cells; contacts between cells that can resist the temperature extremes in space; and developing testing and characterisation regimes to simulate the space environment.This position will provide you with the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, and actively engage with industry partners.This role reports to Professor Gavin Conibeer and has no direct reports.Level A, Salary - $110,059 to $117,718 per annum + 17% superannuationFull timeFixed-term contract –8 monthsLocation: Kensington – Sydney, AustraliaAbout UNSWUNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Job Requirements
Skills & ExperienceMaster’s or higher-level qualification in spacecraft design or adjacent field with understanding of spacecraft environmental effects and testing; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training or experience.Demonstrated interest and capacity to support the conduct and preparation of research as evidenced by involvement and assistance in other research projects, peer reviewed publications, and/or experience of data entry/collection and participant interviews.Proven effective record keeping skills (both paper and electronic), including the ability to work accurately and with excellent attention to detail.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction, show initiative and work effectively as a member of a research team.Excellent organisational skills and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work.Strong computing skills with Microsoft Office and data/statistical computer programs.Familiarity and experience with commercial SME project and the associated understanding of the methodology of spacetech or deeptech entrepreneurship, or willingness to learn.Experience with CAD and simulation software (ANSYS, MATLAB, Fusion 360) is desirable.Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
